This dado head insert has a wider in-letting for the blade compared to the original insert, making it suitable for use with an 8-inch or smaller stacked dado blade set. Its length is appropriate for about a half-inch cut depth, and there is enough blade width clearance for around 5/8ths or 3/4ths of an inch laterally. The Makita 317061-6 Dado Head Insert is made from durable materials and is well-built and sturdy. However, it is worth noting that this is not a zero-clearance insert. Despite being essentially the same width and dimensions as the original insert, the gaps in front of and behind the blade straddling the width of the opening are still the same as the original. When installing the insert, be sure to leave both screws loose until you have it seated properly. While this unit has limited value and use over the original insert, it is still a great option for those looking to switch out their dado insert on their Makita table saws.
